What Mom {Really} Wants This Christmas

Wondering what that special Boss Lady of your family REALLY wants for Christmas this year? It’s real simple:

1. To pee in peace.

2. To roam the aisles of Target, Home Goods, & TJ Maxx. Alone. With no budget.

3. To not have to put ONE.MORE.KID. in his carseat.

4. A clean kitchen. Or better yet–a personal maid!

5. A massage. Preferably at a spa. Under a cabana on a tropical island.

6. To not have to wipe any butts.

7. To sit in Starbucks alone. Drinking a (gasp!) HOT coffee, whilst reading a book not about parenting.

8. To not have to make any decisions.

9. A gourmet chef. (Who specializes in chocolatey treats)

10. A silent night.

Please, Santa? I’ve been a good girl all year. (Except for those times I yelled at my kids…)

The Time We Became “The 3 Little Pigs”

This second day of January started off as a rough one. I woke up to Indy peeing on the bed. Yep. Then Emmalyn threw a tantrum because she didn’t want to hold a toy that she was …ehem… already holding. Seriously??

But the turbulent start got me reflecting on all The Little Things that means so much in life.

Like, how whenever Emmalyn comes to the doctor’s office with me for a well-prenatal checkup, she whispers, “Introduce me, Mommy.” And I have to announce to the doctor, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, introducing… Emmalyn Grace Van Brunt!”

Or, laughing about how Emmalyn tells her teachers at school that “Mommy does yoga and boring things” after I drop her off. Hey, if it gets her to go to school, go for it girlfriend!

Those are The Things that get me through the tough days.

And that’s just the beginning.

I love how Emmalyn always has to FaceTime with Joey, my parents’ dog–or else! She even goes so far as to ask BopBop if she can see the growing tomatoes in the backyard.

Karaoke dance parties for an adorable one year-old’s birthday party makes me smile. And the fact that his momma makes cupcakes with apples-and-bananas-slash-all-natural-no-added-sugar-ingredients just like me, makes me grin even wider.

& can we talk about the fact that living in Central Time Zone rocks my socks off because we got to watch the ball drop at 11pm instead of 12am? Therefore, this tired momma could go to bed an hour earlier? Yep. Smiling.

My love tank was filled to the brim when I witnessed my reluctant little nephew step outside the pew at church to follow Emmalyn into Liturgy of the Word. All by himself… for the first time. His braveness was inspiring, and the look on his proud little face when he came back melted my heart.

The two cousins, in general, melt my heart. Their opposite personalities attract one another, creating an inseparable bond. One I know they’ll have for life.

The guilt I feel for not sending out Christmas cards this year?? Gone. Gone because The Little Things filled me up to the fullest. And so what? There’s always Valentine’s Day… or Easter… or, well, let’s be real… I probably won’t send out family cards until it’s time for a Birth Announcement.

And that’s all right.

The biggest Little Thing took place when Emmalyn and I went to watch Daddy play basketball at the Y. The three of us were passing the ball back and forth before he played and Emmalyn said, “Look at us! We’re like The Three Little Pigs!”

The Three Muskateers ain’t got nothin’ on us!

Happy 2014 to you, my friends!

May it be a year of lots of loving and learning.

Kelle Hampton has inspired me yet again with this post.

Her words really hit home to me: I am capable.

It’s my new mantra. Although I’ve decided not to go into detail about my PPD (since my story is a work in progress), it’s still a part of my reality. It’s a constant battle, but I am capable. I have a healthy and beautiful baby girl who is sleeping through the night [8-9 hours!] I have the most amazing husband who has been by my side every.single.day. And I have a family who loves and supports me unconditionally.

I have so much. And there are people who have much less, and who are going through tougher times. And although PPD isn’t a piece of cake, it’s not forever. And I’m getting help. So for now, I take it one day at a time.

I do it for me. I do it for Blake. And I do it for my daughter.

Speaking of my daughter…. Emmy is growing up! Gosh, I love this girl so much.

Baby’s 1st Ornament

I’ve been trying to find an ornament for Emmy’s first Christmas, but decided it would be more meaningful and memorable if I made one for her instead. [Meaningful and memorable for mom… lol] Plus, I needed something quick and easy because it’s a lot harder to get big projects done these days!
I got a clear ornament and here’s what I filled it with:

I also put in pearls and rhinestones but forgot to take pictures.
Then, these letter stickers for her name:

I’m pleased with how it turned out

One of my favorite things about the holidays is receiving cards. And not just any cards, but photo cards. {Especially ones with super cute kids on them!} Before getting pregnant, I always imagined what my family card would look like one day. Well, my friends, that day has finally arrived (well, almost!)

Since the baby is due the week of Thanksgiving, we’ve decided to do a holiday/birth announcement combo card. I’m so excited–I can hardly wait! With the holidays quickly approaching (can you believe it?! Already!) I’ve decided to start shopping for the “perfect” card.

And where might I be shopping, you ask? Shutterfly.com of course! Have you seen their holiday cards this year? Amazing. In my opinion, there are just way.too.may. to choose from! I could be on their site for hours…

My favorites though are the ones where you can fit a lot of pictures. Because let’s face it, that’s all anyone ever really wants to see right?! {I know that’s the case with me!} And since we’re adding a little bundle of joy to our family this year, I especially want a card that provides space for a lot of pictures.

I’m swooning over this one right now…

And this one..

I also love the idea of personalizing wall calendars. They make excellent gifts for grandma’s and grandpa’s!

And I could just fall over at how adorable Shutterfly’s baby announcements are.
Oh, how on earth am I ever going to decide, y’all?!

Decisions! Decisions!

I can’t wait to get started! Thanks Shutterfly for making such unique, creative, beautiful, and personal cards. They’re sure to brighten everyone’s holidays this year!

Frost in Florida!!!

This is what I woke up to this morning…. The golf course in our backyard was covered in frost. Doesn’t Mother Nature know I live in south Florida?!

Of course I had to go outside and commemorate the moment. Indy was eating the frost off the grass, haha! Don’t make fun of my excitement… I know some of you are up to your elbows in snow, but it’s not every day–or even every ten years–you get to see this in Florida.

It’s a whoppin’ 31 degrees right now. I hope y’all are staying warm wherever you are!

Oh, P.S. The frost has already melted away… boo
