E is for Emmy & Easter!

Like a lot of people around here, we celebrated Emmalyn’s 1st Easter!
On Easter eve, the whole family gathered at my in-laws for a yummy lasagna dinner!
And of course, we just had to get pictures of the cuzzies. It’s so cute how my nephew, Lucas, treats Emmy. We don’t even have to tell him to be gentle anymore. He just knows. He’s sweet like that. It’s getting more & more fun watching the two of them together, especially since Emmy is really exploring & reaching for things nowadays.
What would Easter be without some colorful yummies?!
The sweet peep treats were made by moi
For the past few years that I’ve celebrated Easter with my (now) in-laws, they’ve put on a ridiculously fun Easter Egg Hunt for the “big” kids. Every year, the rules change a bit, but it always involves flash lights & cheating & laughter. Normally, each couple is given a basket & flash light and the competition is ON! This year, we were only allowed to use whatever we could find in the back porch (we snagged a cooler) AND we had to take a running start from the FRONT yard.
My in-laws do such a great job hiding the eggs, that sometimes we find some from LAST Easter! & when the fight competition is over, we all come in and open our eggs to find… $$$! yep! Can we say date night??
You’d think that hunting for money eggs in the dark would be fun enough, but nope! not this year! After the babes went down to sleep, the competition was on again. My FIL created a new game. Not sure what he called it, but it was basically night golf, where the six of us had to compete to get our wiffle ball closest to the hole, surrounded by tiki torches. I was up first & got closer than I thought I would, but it was my SIL, Ann Marie, who took the win with a hole-in-one! saywhat?!
I’m kicking myself in the tush for not taking any pictures of this. I have a love-hate relationship with my camera. I want to capture e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. but then I feel like I miss out on living in the moment. But if I live in the moment, then I don’t have the picture to capture it. Anyone else share this dilemma?
I digress.
It was such a fun night! I was so tired by the end of the day, but a good kind of tired. You know the kind where you had a jam!packed!GO!GO!GO! kinda day, but totally worth it because you sleep like a rock? yea, that kind.the best!
On to Easter morning….
It was Emmalyn’s first time going to Mass since her Baptism–which she basically slept through–so I was interested nervous to see how she was going to behave.
She was such a good little girl! She spent the beginning in her car seat, watching & smiling at the old folks in the pew behind us.
(Aren’t old people & babies the cutest?! especially together!?)
After getting a little fidgety, she spent the rest of the time on mommy & daddy’s laps.
Lucas entertained her, too. Or did Emmy entertain him? Not sure… but either way it was adorable because Lucas would gently touch her head & cheek, occasionally sneaking in a kiss & playing with her toys.
After mass, it was family-picture-taking time! I’m so fortunate to have married into such a warm & loving family who have such strong values and family traditions. I love it!
The gang’s all here!
Emmy’s really into touching people’s faces:
B’s parents… Emmy’s “Papo” & “Mimo” 🙂
I hope everyone had a very blessed & colorful weekend. I’d say we’re excited to whip out our seersucker shorts, sundresses, tanks, & flip flops, but heck! we’ve been sporting this look for months now in sunny ninetyohmygawditshotdegrees Florida weather for months now! don’t hate.
What are your favorite traditions? Did you grow up with some, or are you starting new ones with your own little family? Do tell! Or leave me a little linky if you blogged about it!
Loyally,
Katie
P.S. some bunny loves you….

Baby’s 1st Ornament

I’ve been trying to find an ornament for Emmy’s first Christmas, but decided it would be more meaningful and memorable if I made one for her instead. [Meaningful and memorable for mom… lol] Plus, I needed something quick and easy because it’s a lot harder to get big projects done these days!
I got a clear ornament and here’s what I filled it with:

I also put in pearls and rhinestones but forgot to take pictures.
Then, these letter stickers for her name:

I’m pleased with how it turned out
🙂

Happy Hanukkah!

What’s great about having an interfaith family is we never have to split the holidays between the in-laws 😉

[Who knew Betty Crocker made Hanukkah candles? 😉 …I forgot to buy some for the first night, so this is all B could find at Publix lol]

*****
My parents came this weekend for Emmy’s 1st Hanukkah:
[thanks cousin Alice for the adorable onesie!]

Happy Hanukkah!

Happy Thanks!

Hope y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And if you went out for Black Friday, I hope you were safe and got everything you wanted. I, for one, do not like waking up before the sun, nor so I like big crowds. And clearly, this year I have the only gift I want 😉

My mom has been staying with us since Emmalyn was born, and my dad came for the day yesterday to spend Thanksgiving with us.
My mom’s going back home today
(don’t wanna think/talk about it… I’m gonna bawl my eyes out!! Even though she’ll be back next weekend.)

BUT, Blake’s parents are coming today and his mom is going to stay with us for several days. Thank goodness!!!

As for my health… I’m still trying to feel better. I was in the ER TWICE for nausea (threw up once) and dehydration, even though I’ve been downing water and Gatorade like I’m going to the desert! I’ve just been so weak that I can’t even function. Like, can’t even fully take care of Emmy. It’s been awful. I’d much rather be in pain than nauseous.

We’re not sure if the nausea is a result of postpartum or maybe I’m just sick?? B thinks I could just possibly have the flu or a bug. Especially since now my throat is hurting. UGH! I just wish I knew what was wrong, and when it’s going to STOP! Seriously! I’ve been miserable. I’ve been trying to enjoy my angel as much as possible, but it’s hard when you feel like you’re going to throw up almost 24/7.

Any other moms ever experience anything like this?

*P.S. This is Emmalyn’s due date*

Ho-Ho-Holidays!

One of my favorite things about the holidays is receiving cards. And not just any cards, but photo cards. {Especially ones with super cute kids on them!} Before getting pregnant, I always imagined what my family card would look like one day. Well, my friends, that day has finally arrived (well, almost!)

Since the baby is due the week of Thanksgiving, we’ve decided to do a holiday/birth announcement combo card. I’m so excited–I can hardly wait! With the holidays quickly approaching (can you believe it?! Already!) I’ve decided to start shopping for the “perfect” card.

And where might I be shopping, you ask? Shutterfly.com of course! Have you seen their holiday cards this year? Amazing. In my opinion, there are just way.too.may. to choose from! I could be on their site for hours…

My favorites though are the ones where you can fit a lot of pictures. Because let’s face it, that’s all anyone ever really wants to see right?! {I know that’s the case with me!} And since we’re adding a little bundle of joy to our family this year, I especially want a card that provides space for a lot of pictures.

I’m swooning over this one right now…

And this one..

I also love the idea of personalizing wall calendars. They make excellent gifts for grandma’s and grandpa’s!

And I could just fall over at how adorable Shutterfly’s baby announcements are.
Oh, how on earth am I ever going to decide, y’all?!

Decisions! Decisions!

I can’t wait to get started! Thanks Shutterfly for making such unique, creative, beautiful, and personal cards. They’re sure to brighten everyone’s holidays this year!

Roses Are Red…

Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
and cupcakes are, too!

I baked/made this cupcake & cookie rose bouquet for a girls-only Valentine’s dinner. Seven of us Med school significant others each brought a different dish; from won tons to turtle bars. We exchanged recipes, played Apples to Apples, and just talked for over five hours. It’s always comforting to talk to other young women who are going through the same situations, and are experiencing similar emotions as me. Although they try, no one can understand what it’s like dating and living with a medical student, unless they’re doing it (or have done it), too. I must say, though, I’m having some of the best & most memorable moments in my life right now!
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

Winter Kisses & Birthday Wishes

I don’t even know where to start! These last few weeks have been crazy, busy, fun! (I’ll try to make this as short and sweet as possible):

1. B’s parents treated everyone to a weekend getaway at the Grand Cypress near Disney. In case I’ve never mentioned it before, B has two older sisters. Here’s a room with a view, if you ask me:
2. The whole fam went to the coolest mini-golf place ever! It was Disney’s Fantasia-themed. Just a little goofing off with the boy…
3. I took a little break from the resort to support my best friend & sorority sister, Lauren, at her college graduation. I always love when we get to hang out, but wished we lived closer. I can’t wait ‘til we go see Swifty (Taylor Swift) in concert together in March!
4. Back to the resort… On the second night of the weekend we celebrated B’s grandma’s 80th birthday! We jumped on the Disney monorail and hotel-hopped to see the Christmas decorations and watch the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks from the Polynesian. I love this pic of us (even though my eyes look funny from adjusting the red eye. I really need to invest in a better camera).
5. “Goofing” (no pun intended) around at the hotel shops. Only a few hours until my 23rd birthday!
6. One of my favorites. B’s sister volunteered as our photographer and caught this candid. I love it. (Again, new camera needed desperately!)
7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY (and Hanukah) TO ME!!! A fun fact about me… half my family is Christian/Catholic/Baptist and the other half is Jewish. Interesting mix, huh? In my parents’ household we celebrate Hanukah. If we go to West Virginia where my mom’s family is, we celebrate Christmas. And with B’s fam, we celebrate Christmas. At my and B’s house, we had both a Menorah and a Christmas tree. It’s ALL FUN! Here’s a picture of me with one of my Hanukah gifts from my mom. I’ve been swooning over these Victoria’s Secret “Pink loves the Knights” sweats. (Not posting all the pics of my goodies, especially since all the pictures clearly give away that I just rolled out of bed, HA!)
I also got a Longchamp backpack in taupe. I have two other Longchamp bags and just love them!
For my birthday my parents got me this baby (I got the matching ring for my 21st birthday):
One of my other absolute favorite Christmas gifts was from B’s parents. They were so thoughtful and got me a mug with pictures of B and me because they know how much I love to drink hot green tea every morning. On top is says “Live, Laugh, Love.”
8. Finally, we have come to Midnight Mass. B’s mom plays the bells for their church and it’s absolutely beautiful to listen to them. But what a late night! I didn’t get back to my parents’ house until 2 a.m. Then, I had to drive two hours the next morning to be back on the gulf coast to work at noon! Yes, that’s right… I had to work on Christmas. Two year-olds don’t stop, and neither do I!
I hope everyone had a very safe, happy, and blessed holiday and New Years. Welcome 2010! I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

“Give hugs this holiday season…

…they’re one size fits all and can be returned.”

I just love that, don’t you? I’d like to take credit for it, but really I saw it on a sign driving by a church.

Over the last few days, we’ve been decorating our Christmas tree. We found a really nice 8-footer. We’re not quite sure how we got so lucky… the xmas tree gods must have been looking down on us (lol).

I have no idea how B got him to sit still long enough to take this picture (maybe because I wasn’t there for him to run to), but either way, he looks so cute ☺ And even better, we don’t have any problems with him and the tree… wait, wait, wait… let me eat my words… we haven’t had any problems… as I’m typing this, he’s trying to chew the tree. But for the most part, he just circles around it, runs away, and/or growls at it.
Lots of fun! I prevented myself from getting too OCD about placing the ornaments, ‘cause in the end, it looks good no matter what!

…taking a little break with my buddy boy…

Ta-Da! I think it looks pretty good for our first tree. Red, silver, and gold. It’s simple, yet classic.

Let the countdown begin…
10 more days til my 23rd birthday
15 more days til Christmas

Okay, gotta go to work!
